DSM Composite Resins is a global supplier of unsaturated polyester resins, high-performance gelcoats, and polymeric plasticizers to industrial customers. Their representatives work with clients in changing and dynamic markets internationally. Recently, DSM recognized that they had a significant collateral management problem. For a variety of reasons, including mergers, acquisitions, and product changes, their brochure materials quickly became outdated, inapplicable, or unproductive. Perhaps more troubling to the firm, large amounts of collateral material was being discarded without ever being used. Historically, DSM had utilized an optimized offset printing solution. A system they describe as very conventional. The downside to this solution was twofold: collateral that was highly "perishable" and very limited diversification and most collateral was only published in the English language. To solve these challenges, Cordeo b.v. proposed the development of a "publish-on-demand" (POD) system to enable DSM to create brochures with significant levels of variability for text and image components. As part of this POD system, Cordeo also developed a marketing portal with additional functionality to manage all collateral online.
